My friend and unofficial business partner, Jessica Staszak Abitz passed away recently in a tragic swimming accident in Florida. She was a wonderful human being. This is a tribute I wrote to Jess:
Jessica was made of color and light.
She was made of unbridled laughter and dimples.
She could illuminate a room with her presence.
She had a labyrinthian mind that twisted and jagged and ventured into unexpected places.
Jessica was a traveler, a reader, an educator, a friend.
She was a wife, aunt, daughter. Friend.
My friend.
Jess has always been more than my unofficial business partner
and fellow writer.
We would dream and scheme together.
We would laugh together.
Two weeks ago, that laughter was quashed in a tragic accident.
I'll miss you Jess,
and I know your bright light
and your words
will live on.
